Warren A. Schmidt, 65, of Huron, died Monday, April 1, 2013, in Fisher Titus Medical Center, Norwalk.
He was born April 16, 1947, in Evergreen Park, Ill., and had been a resident of Huron since 1974 coming from Sandusky. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1965. He worked as an operating engineer for Local 18 out of Cleveland for 30 years, retiring in 2006.
He was a 40-year member of the Ohio Operating Engineers Association and a former advisory board member of District 1, Local 18, Cleveland. He was president of the Huron High School Band Parents organization from 1997-99.
Warren is survived by his wife of 41 years, Tomma (Slocum) Schmidt; a daughter, Laura Schmidt, of Boston; a son, Matthew (Amy) Schmidt, of Columbus; grandchildren, David and Eleanor Schmidt; a sister, Virginia Brown, of Sandusky; and two brothers, Herbert “Bart” (Carol) Schmidt of Loudon, Tenn., and Russell Schmidt, of Huron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Marguerite (Nimock) Schmidt.
Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 5 , until his service at 2 p.m. at the Oakland Cemetery Chapel, Sandusky. The Rev. Wanda Ray, pastor of Christ Episcopal Church, Huron, will officiate.
