Jean (Nickols) Daniels, 87, of Berlin Heights, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, following a brief illness.
She was born March 5, 1926, in Berlin Heights and lived in the area her entire life. Jean was a 1944 graduate of Berlin Heights High School. She was a former Girl Scout leader and neighborhood chairman, served on the election board for 25 years, and worked as a secretary for Dr. Blackann for 12 years.
Jean was a member of the Berlin Heights Congregational UCC.
As a cancer survivor, Jean helped start the Reach To Recovery Program in 1970 in order to help other women with breast cancer.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth “Bets” (Ronald) Geib, of Monroe Falls, Ohio; a son, Jim Daniels, of Berlin Heights; a sister, Alice Hillis, of Berlin Heights; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William “Bill” Daniels; parents, Louis and Elizabeth (Irish) Nickols; a sister, Ruth Kolar; and brother, Myron “Bud” Nickols.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, until services at 1 p.m. at Morman-Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home, 38 South St., Berlin Heights. Pastor Casey Cain, of the Berlin Heights Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
