Florence "Sis" McKillips, 92, of Kelleys Island, passed away Friday evening, March 15, 2013, in Stein Hospice Care Center, following a brief illness.
Florence "Sis" McKillips was born Aug. 13, 1920, on Kelleys Island, daughter of the late Alexander and Emma (Beatty) Betzenheimer. Sis retired from the Village of Kelleys Island as the bookkeeper and treasurer of the Water Board and also served as clerk of courts for the court.
She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church on Kelleys Island where she was the church secretary for more than 60 years, the Kelleys Island Historical Society, Kelleys Island School Board, and the PTA. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, sitting on the front porch, reading, baking, quilting and crocheting, but most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Sis is survived by two daughters, Marline Swasey, of Olmsted Township, Ohio, and Beatrice Matso, of Huron; four grandchildren, Rick (Jessica) Swasey, of Strongsville, Ohio, Barbara Skladany, of Parma, Ohio, Paul (Deanna) Matso, of Sandusky, and Lisa (Philip) Luna, of Huron; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Phillip Matso; granddaughter, Connie Marie Matso; and four brothers, John, Alvin, Lawrance and Francis Betzenheimer; and two sons-in-law, Dick Swasey and Russ Matso.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 18, at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Family committal services will be private on Kelleys Island in late April.
