George — Dad — Grampy — Great-Grampy is highly honored and deeply mourned by his beloved family — and, indeed, by all who knew him. He was a man whose warmth and graciousness embraced all — and his generous sharing of kindness and caring, as well as his ingenuity and expertise, were spiced by an ever-present sense of humor and optimism. Just as George thoroughly enjoyed being with others, he was a man whom others enjoyed being with — and who knew they were the better for knowing him. He will be greatly missed.
Since moving to the area in 1945, George was a cornerstone of the Sandusky community. He began Gilbert Heating and Air Conditioning in 1959, and among his many community contributions was his exemplary leadership to First Congregational United Church of Christ, Providence Care Centers, the Old House Guild and the Merry-Go-Round Museum. The Erie County Chamber of Commerce honored George with a Special Award in 1994 for his many years of service to the community and his fellow citizens.
At 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16, his family will receive those who wish to offer their condolences at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 431 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Lenore Kure will officiate.
