Robert Martin Gerding, 68, of Lutz, Fla., passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2013,
He was born June 6, 1944 — D Day, in Sandusky, to Robert and Sally Gerding. He had one sibling, Rebecca Pallas, of Utah. Robert attended The Ohio State University and graduated in 1967 with a degree in Soviet and East European Affairs.
He received his commission in the U.S, Navy in 1968 in Newport, R.I. and served as an intellegence officer in the Phillippines, Sangley Point.
Robert married Brenda Bailey in Sandusky on Aug. 3, 1968, and they had two children.
He was a 29-year resident of Tampa, Fla. He was employed by AT&T and later by Shriners Hospitals.
Robert was a member of Grace Lutheran Church Carrollwood. Prior to his diagnosis, Robert was a member of Shriners Highlander Bagpipe Corps. He enjoyed reading, music, traveling, friends and family.
Robert will be remembered by his loving wife and their children, Colin, 37, his wife Jaime, and their children, Abby and Avery; and daughter, Meredith, 34, her husband, John Boggs, and their children, Josh and Caroline. He is also survived by his sister, Becky Pallas, of Utah.
The family thanks the Hospice Blue Team and Brenda Williams from the HomeCare Team for their loving care and support.
Relatives and friends attended a memorial service at Grace Lutheran Church Carrollwood.
