Delbert A. Cole, 94, of Huron, died Monday, March 11, 2013, in Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky.
He was born Sept. 18, 1918, in Sheridan, Mich., and moved to Huron in 1963 from Royal Oak, Mich. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1950.
He worked as a civil engineer for the Corps of Engineers from 1950-62 and then worked for NASA from 1962-74. For the next several years he worked as a consultant in private practice.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in WWII. He received 13 medals including two Bronze Stars.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion locally; and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; American Society of Civil Engineers; and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He enjoyed traveling and gardening as pastimes.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Richard) Terrell, of Okemos, Mich.; two sons, Doug (Lynn) Cole, of Monroeville, and Gary (Lynette) Cole, of Norwalk; four grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Kilgore, of Greenville, Mich.; and two brothers, Donald Cole, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and LaVern Cole, of Reed City, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace (Van Gilder) Cole; parents, Frederick and Phoebe (Pendell) Cole; and three brothers, Kenneth, Lewis and Lyle Cole.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, until f services at 11 a.m. at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main S., Huron. The Rev. Vince Cooper, pastor of Oasis Assembly of God Church, Norwalk, will officiate. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery, Huron, with military honors.
