Betty Jane Filancia, 81, of Sandusky, passed peacefully Wednesday evening, March 6, 2013, in Parkvue Health Care Center.
Betty was born July 9, 1931, in her hometown, Newburg, W. Va., daughter of the late Roscoe and Eva Barker.
Betty (known by many as Betty Riley) was a former employee at the old Muirs Drugstore, Gray Drugstore and Rite Aid in Sandusky.
She moved to Vero Beach, Fla., for 28 years, until returning to Sandusky to be with her daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and loved spending time and getting into trouble with her great-granddaughter, who meant the world to her. She was always cracking jokes and being stubborn, family and those who knew her called her a “real firecracker”. Being by the ocean and in the hills of West Virginia, were among her favorite places.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Lois Wynn, of Sandusky; granddaughter, Jennifer A. (Paul) Wireman, of Milan; great-granddaughter, Alesha Wireman, of Milan; stepgreat-grandchildren, Ryan and Victoria Wireman, of Eastlake, Ohio; brothers and sisters, Genevieve (William) Stemple, of Virginia, Patty Stemple, Barbara Mitter, Linda (Eddie) Dean, Charles “Buddy” Barker, Roy “Sonny” (Lulabelle) Barker, Paul Barker and Jerry Barker, all of West Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews; and her very dear friend, Pat Hartley.
Betty was preceded in death by her son, John E. Riley; her parents; her sisters, Shirley McNafee, Mary McGinnis, Margaret Goff and Bonnie Wiles; her ex-husband, Darrell Riley; and long time companion, Armando Locicero..
