Karla M. (Poulsen) Schworer, 95, of LaPorte, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky after complications of a stroke. 

 She was born Nov. 5, 1917, in Rocky River, Ohio, to Niels Peter and Andersine Kristine Poulsen. She lived briefly in Denmark as a young child before returning to the States. She was a graduate of Elyria High School. Karla worked on her parent’s vegetable and pansy farm and later at Grafton Sparkle Market until her retirement. 

 She had a passion for traveling and visited much of the United States and Europe. She was a wonderful gardener and could often be found tending her flower and vegetable beds. She always had a good book to read and never hesitated when asked to attend school programs of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She accompanied her husband, Lewis, to many stream engine shows throughout Ohio during the summers.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen (Michael) Anderton, of Sandusky; grandchildren, Katherine (Patrick) Conley, of Milan, Jeffrey (Christine) Krupp, of Vermilion, Susan (Tom) Justavick, of Brookpark, Ohio, and Christopher (Erin) Schworer, of Vermilion; great-grandchildren, Tabitha, Gwen, Kaitlyn, Tommy, Alyssia, CJ and Andrew; stepgranddaughters, Michelle Anderton, of Columbus, and Julie (Sean) Renner, of North Canton, Ohio; sister-in-law, Marjorie Poulsen; daughter-in-law, Sarah (Robert) Collingwood; as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, in 1987; son, Earl Lewis, in 1980; grandson, Earl Jr., in 2000; her parents; and a brother, Oswald.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 11, until services at 11 a.m. at Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, Ohio. The Rev. Jerald Fenske, pastor of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, of Sandusky, will officiate. Burial will be in Nesbett Cemetery, Grafton Twp.
