Harold Criswell, 86, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, March 5, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Harold was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Portsmouth, Ohio, son of the late Edward and Ollie (Jackson) Criswell.
He retired from Youngstown Cartridge Co. as an over the road driver hauling steel for many years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He attended Community of Christ Church of Sandusky. Harold was a member of Sandusky AMVETS Post 17. In his spare time, he enjoyed family gatherings, his children and grandchildren. Family was important to Harold and he looked forward to his time with them.
Harold is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty (McCowen). He is also survived by his daughter, Carla (Michael) McCool and sons, Dale Criswell and Mike (Robin) Criswell, all of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Heather, Vicki, Georgia, Mickenzi, Lacie, April and Michael; four sisters, Dolores Wadsworth, of Sandusky, Wanda Criswell, of Sandusky, Colleen (Thomas) Meisler, of Castalia, and Marilyn Billman, of Florida; two brothers, Jack (Corrine) Criswell, of Sandusky, and Bruce Criswell, of Clyde; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his sisters, Pam Callahan and Anna Mae Wadsworth.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9. Pastor Jeannie Slusher, of Community of Christ Church, of Sandusky, will preside. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
