Richard L. David, 92, of Sandusky, died Monday, March 4, 2013, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, following a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Sandusky and was a 1940 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WW II, and was held as a prisoner of war for 11 months in Germany. Richard was employed as a electrician with Local IBEW 129 for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, of Sandusky, Grand Chapter of Electrical Craftsmen, Military Order of the Purple Heart, American Ex Prisoners of War, The Eight Air Force Historical Society, Disabled American Veterans, Lowell C. Hein Post 2529, VFW, AMVETS Post 17, Science Lodge No. 50, F. & A.M., and the Singara Grotto.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Beatrice M. Daugherty; one son, Leonard (Mary) David, of Sandusky; two daughters, Janice (Larry) Silverman, of Charlottesville, Va., and Lauretta (Paul) Papp, of Swanton, Ohio.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Leola David, of Mobile, Ala.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Irene (Kurtz) David; one brother, Alvin David; and one sister, Lauretta Piper.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where Science Lodge No. 50 will host memorial services at 3:30 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. Friday. March 8, until a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. John B. Mawhirter will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky.
