Esther R. Hughes, 70, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 26, 2013, in Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness.
Esther R. Hughes was born March 22, 1942, daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Carney) Hemmer. Esther owned and operated Aunt Esther’s Final Touch House Cleaning, up until her illness.
Esther was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; American Legion Post 83 Woman’s Auxiliary; and Sandusky AMVETS, Woman’s Auxiliary Post 17. In her spare time Esther volunteered for Easter Seals, she enjoyed collecting Hallmark ornaments, and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. More than anything, Esther loved traveling to Las Vegas and spending time with her friends and family.
Esther is survived by her four sons, Lynn (Desiree), of Las Vegas, Scott, of Huron, Joe (Malissa), of Sandusky, Chris (Kelly) Hughes, of Sandusky; nine grandchildren, Dustin, Brandon, Karley, Jesicca, Rachael, Derrick, Domonic, Jacob and Caleb; two great-grandchildren, Lucie and Haizley; two sisters, Irene Aceto and Nancy Trumpower, of Sandusky; three brothers, William (Verna) Hemmer, of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Larry Hemmer, of Florida, and Mel (Donna) Hemmer, of Norwalk; several nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Rolland, Gerald and John Hemmer; and one sister, Helen Klein.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, and from 9 a.m. Friday, March 1, until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Joe Steinbauer will officiate. Burial will take place at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
