Ursula M. Fischer, 96, of Sandusky, passed away early Thursday morning, Feb. 21, 2013, in Providence Care Center, Sandusky.
She was born July 5, 1916, in Sandusky, daughter of the late Alvin H. and Alma Maria (Missig) Biehl. Ursula was a 1934 graduate of St. Mary High School. She worked at Ohio Bell for 40 years, starting in 1939, as a telephone operator and later retired in 1978 as chief operator. Prior to that, she worked at S.S. Kresge Company for a few years.
She loved playing Bingo, gardening, traveling and spending her winters in Florida. She also volunteered for many years at the Providence Hospital Gift Shoppe.
Ursula was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Zonta Club and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Ron) Laws; six grandchildren, Shelley (Jim Wolf) Laws, Ronald Laws, Bob (Heather Hulec) Laws, Jeff (Renee) Laws, Kim Laws, and Matt Laws; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Fischer on March 17, 1994; her parents; two brothers, Alvin and James R. Biehl; and sister, Beatrice Weigel.
At her request, private family visitation will take place. A Memorial Mass will be at a later date at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
