Joyce M. Lammers, of Danbury Township, died peacefully Thursday. Feb. 21, 2013, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, in Perrysburg, Ohio, from complications from Lewy body disease, 11 days shy of her 88th birthday.
She was born Joyce Martina Kibbel on March 4, 1925, in Oak Harbor to William H. and Sylvia (Paulsen) Kibbel.
She married Walter R. (Sonny) Lammers in 1956 and moved to Danbury, where she helped him build the family’s business, Sonny’s Beach. Seven years ago, she moved to Maumee to be cared for by her family.
She spent her life sacrificing for and devoted to her family, finding endless joy in her children, their wives and, eventually, her grandchildren. She delighted in quilting, gardening, bird watching, and other nature outside her window, as well as caring for a parade of spoiled dogs. She was an avid Cleveland sports fan, particularly fond of her Indians and Cavaliers. She remembered the Cleveland Indians’ last championship, and the hope for another Cleveland championship lives on in her family.
She is survived by her four sons and their wives, Bill (Nancy), of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, Guy (Linda Marckel), of Maumee, Ohio, John (Cindy), of Baldwinsville, N.Y., and Pete (Sueann), of Danbury; and six grandchildren, Kirk and Jackie, Kaylee and Lauren, Sarah Barbera and Christina Curley.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982, her parents and her sister, Helen O. Hetrick, in 2000.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, Lakeside-Marblehead, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Danbury Township. The Rev. Chris Young will officiate.
