Ruth Alma Schick, 98, of Norwalk died Thursday, May 13, 2010, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.
She was born Aug. 18, 1911, in Freedom Township, Henry County, Ohio, daughter of the late John and Alma (Wesche) Gefeke.
She was a 1930 graduate of Napoleon High School and a 1934 graduate of Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Ft. Wayne, Ind. She was a registered nurse and worked at Detwiler Memorial Hospital, and was also a private duty nurse in the Wauseon area. On June 3, 1947, she married Reinhold Schick in Napoleon and they moved to Norwalk. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst, Firelands Historical Society, Monroeville Golden Eagles, and member of the Bible-a-Month Club of the American Bible Society for more than 45 years. She enjoyed sports, tennis and Cleveland Indians baseball. She enjoyed bird watching, baking, crocheting and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lydia and Will Rice of Norwalk; four granddaughters, Mary and the Rev. Joshua Haugen, Kathy and Vern Nansel, Debbie and John Sanchez, and Brenda and Mike Campbell; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reinhold Schick; brothers, Lawrence Gefeke and Norman Gefeke; and sister, Lydia Gefeke.
Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Sunday in Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk, and from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 115 Central Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Terrance S. Adamson, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk.
