Raymond D. Zimmerman, 85, of Wakeman, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Berlin Township and lived in the area his entire life. He was a 1946 graduate of Berlin Heights High School. He was a lifelong farmer and also worked at several area lumberyards.
Ray had been an active member of Milan Evangelical Friends Church. He was currently a member of Vermilion Church of The Nazarene and served on the church board. He served as a coordinator for the Lay Witness Mission. He was active with the Erie County Fair, serving on the Senior Fair Board and the Heritage Committee. Ray enjoyed woodworking and operating his own sawmill.
He is survived by his wife of more than 64 years, L. Jean (Holden; a daughter, Carolyn (Milton) Sayler, of Wakeman; two sons, the Rev. James (Janet) Zimmerman, of Canton, Ohio, and Ronald (Sue) Zimmerman, of Wellington, Ohio; a sister, Betty (Carl) Roach, of Mansfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marian (Currier) Zimmerman.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper St., Wakeman, and from 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, until services at 11 a.m. at Vermilion Church of the Nazarene, 14907 Kneisel Road, Vermilion. Pastor David Johnson will officiatie. Burial will follow at Birmingham Cemetery.
