John R. Schwiefert, 87, residing in Bellevue, passed away on Sunday evening, Feb. 10, 2013, in The Willows of Bellevue.
He was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Huron, and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII from 1943-46.
John was employed by General Motors for 35 years, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 83 in Sandusky. John loved to bowl, enjoying the sport for more than 50 years. He also loved to do puzzles, gardening and yard work.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Allene (Koch) Schwiefert, whom he married March 19, 1944; daughter, Debra (Loren) Pugh, of Bellevue; son, Craig (Judith) Schwiefert, of Bellevue; grandchildren, Kiley, Nikki, Adam, and Cody; step-grandchildren, William Stevens and Brandon Smith; three great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Schwiefert; mother, Johanna (Rosenberg) Dreschel; stepfather, Anthony Dreschel; and brothers, Leroy Schwiefert, Walter Schwiefert and Richard Dreschel.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013. The Rev. Forrest Kirchenbauer will officiate. Entombment will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, with the American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard providing military honors.
