Duane G. Fair, 90, of Riverside, Calif., passed away of natural causes on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Air Force Village West in Riverside, Calif.
He was born on March 22, 1922, in Port Huron, Mich., son of George and Mary Ellen (Winn) Fair. Duane was a 1950 graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, retiring from the Michigan Air National Guard as a lieutenant colonel in 1974.
Duane was employed as an electrical engineer at NASA’s Plum Brook Station, retiring after 21 years in 1983. He was a licensed pilot and provided flight training instruction to numerous Sandusky area residents, including his sons John and Bob and his wife of 67 years Mary. He was a member of the Masonic Perseverance Lodge 329, Singara Grotto, Good Sam Club, and Elks Post 285 until leaving the area with Mary on a 20 year adventure across the U.S. before settling in Green Valley, Ariz., and eventually Riverside.
Duane is survived by one daughter, Diana Stone of Indian Wells, Calif.; two sons, John (Debra) Fair of Colonial Heights, Va., and Robert (Teresa) Fair of Sandusky; one granddaughter, Larissa; many nieces and nephews; and his loving dog Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary E. (Shepardson) Fair in 2011; daughter, Mary Lou; and sisters, Bernadine and Florence Mae.
