Jeremiah T. Herlihy, 82, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Friday morning, Feb. 8, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Jeremiah was born July 21, 1930, in Holyoke, Mass., son of the late Jeremiah T. and Marguerite Irene (Carroll) Herlihy Sr.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge, he studied and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin. He taught chemistry at Firelands College for 13 years, and was also a chemist for the Sandusky Foundry in 1980. Jeremiah also taught chemistry for the adult education program at Sandusky High School.
He was a member of the IAB Club and many other technical organizations.
Jeremiah is survived by his two daughters, Charlotte (Dale ) Hartlaub, of Sandusky, and Sharon (Michael) Heller, of Columbus; his three grandchildren, Brian (Sara) Hartlaub, Kimberly (John) Davis and Cameron Heller; one great-granddaughter, Molly Claire Davis; and his brother, Jim of Sheffield, of Massachusetts.
Jeremiah was preceded in death by the love of his life, Helen Frank; and his parents.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, until funeral services at 11 a.m. at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Our Lady of the Valley Cemetery in Sheffield, Mass.
