Charles J. Chamberlain, 79, of Sandusky, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.
He was born March 22, 1933, in Sandusky, son of the late William and Ethel (Obergefell) Chamberlain. Charles was a 1951 graduate of St. Mary Central Catholc High School. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army and worked for many years at Waldock Packing, eventually retiring from J.H. Routh Packing.
Chuck was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed visiting with family and friends in his retirement. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Chuck is survived by three sisters, Rita Manner, of Sandusky, Marilyn Millis, of Huron, and Joyce Tight (Paul), of Lorain, and two brothers, Ralph (Joan), and David Chamberlain, all of Sandusky. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph (in infancy), Robert and Paul Chamberlain; and three sisters, Ruth Leidorf, Alice Brady and Lois Ulmer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Joe Steinbauer will officiate. Visitation at the church will immediately follow services. A joint reception for Charles and his sister, Lois Ulmer, who preceded him in death on Feb. 5, will follow Lois' graveside service in the Church Commons. Burial for Charles will take place after the reception at approximately 2 p.m. at Meadow Green Memorial Park, 2602 Bogart Road, Huron. Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, Sandusky Chape, is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.
