Frederick R. Hammond, 83, of Huron, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 10, 1929, in Huron and was a lifelong resident. Fred graduated from Huron High School in 1948. He worked for Huron Public Schools for 23 years as a custodian and maintenance person.
He was a US Air Force veteran and served during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Maria (Sedlatschek) of 58 years, whom he met in Wiesbaden, Germany; daughters, Tanja (Tim) Wrenn, of Monroeville, and Patricia (Stuart) James, of Sandusky; grandchildren, Natalie (CJ) Dunlap, and Adrienne James; a sister, Marian Howland, of Huron; a brother, John “Midge” Hammond, of Springfield, Ohio; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerhard and Anni, of Germany; and many nieces and nephews in Germany as well as the U.S.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen (Karako) Hammond; and brothers, Chad, Rene and Tom Hammond.
A private family memorial service will take place and burial will be at McMillen Cemetery, Huron.
