Thomas W. Steinemann

Thomas W. Steinemann, 89, residing in Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning. Feb. 3, 2013, in Providence Care Center.

Thomas was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Sandusky to George and Florence (Cable) Steinemann. Thomas was a Sandusky High School graduate and attended Ohio University. 
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and proudly served his country during World War II in the South Pacific. 

He founded and operated T. W. Steinemann and Associates Insurance for more than 30 years. 

Thomas was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Plum Brook Country Club, Sandusky Yacht Club, Catawba Island Club, Sandusky Sailing Club, AMVETS Post 17, VFW Post 2529, American Legion Post 83, Knights of Columbus and the Sandusky Rotary Club. He was a past recipient of the JayCee’s Young Man of the Year, recognized for his restoration and preservation of several Water St. buildings in Sandusky and was a board member of the Sandusky Branch of the American Red Cross (also served as chairman), Providence Hospital, Ohio Veterans Home and the Erie County Mental Health Association. 
Thomas enjoyed sailing, travel, current events, being active in Sandusky and spending time with his family and friends.

Thomas is survived by his children, Christopher (Peggy) Steinemann, of Franktown, Colo., Dr. Thomas “Tim” (Susan) Steinemann, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Cable Steinemann, of Sandusky; four grandchildren, Becker, Mary “Mollie”, Emily and Hayden Steinemann; brother, John H. Steinemann, of San Diego, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Fuller), in 1998; and his siblings, Elisabeth Sidner, George Steinemann and F. Cable Steinemann.

A private family Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery, Clyde. Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
