Nick Georgiafandis, 92, residing in Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 30, 2013.
Nick was born June 23, 1920, in Clarksburg, W. Va. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War.
He was married to Dorothy for more than 60 years. She preceded him in death. He lived in Steubenville, was a former member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, and worked for Weirton Steel Corp. in West Virginia for 33 years. In 1976, he retired and they moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., and he worked more than 15 years at a bowling alley. They loved to go ballroom dancing every weekend. He always had a beautiful yard with meticulously kept gardens. Later they moved to Elyria, and he spent the last seven years at Ohio Veterans Home, where he died peacefully in his sleep.
He is survived by his children, Nina (Mick) Pandelos, of Daytona Beach, Fla., Nick (Kelley) Georgiafandis, of Norwalk, and George (Jennifer) Georgiafandis, of Chicago; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ethel and Julia; brothers, Stanley and John; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Benos) Georgiafandis in 2004; a brother, Steve; and his parents, George and Maria Georgiafandis.
A private gathering for family and friends took place at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk. Burial with military honors was at Berlinville Cemetery.
