John L. Seibel, 89, Venice, Fla., passed away Jan. 25, 2013, following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Sandusky, to John W. Seibel and Leah (Heeter) Seibel Hewitt. He graduated in 1941 from Sandusky High School. He served as a pharmacist's mate in the Pacific Theater in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was employed in banking and finance for most of his career, most recently as president of Firelands Community Bank in Huron. He retired in 1986 as executive director of the Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross. He relocated to Englewood, Fla., after retirement, later moving to Venice.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Patricia (Duke) Seibel; daughters, Barbara Seibel, of Englewood, Ohio, Mary Risdon (Robert), of Vermilion, and Kathryn Kaplan (Marvin), of Sarasota, Fla.; sons, John F. (Kristinne) Seibel, of Marion, Ohio, and Robert (Martha) Seibel; brother, Ralph (Martha) Seibel, of West Chester, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Jean (Foster) Seibel; grandson, Robert Seibel; and sister, Irene Johannsen.
There will be a private graveside service for the family. Burial will be at Gulf Pines Memorial Park.
