Clarence D. “Sonny” Herzog, 76, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Tuesday evening, January 22, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Sonny was born June 18, 1936, in Sandusky, son of the late Clarence J. and Elizabeth (Miller) Herzog.
Sonny was a 1954 graduate of St. Mary Central Catholic High School and attended John Carroll University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Sonny retired from Coldwell Banker after spending more than 50 years of dedicated service as a real estate agent.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, Sonny enjoyed golfing, and bowling, especially as a member of the 300 Club. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan; especially loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events; and spending time with his family and friends.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol (Merkle); his daughter, Jodi (Todd) Parish, of Sandusky; his two sons, Cary (Janet) Herzog, of Tiffin, and Dr. Chris Herzog, of Maytown, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Alex, Derek, Margot, Philip, Tanner, Jacob, Clay, Danielle, and Mallory; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Including his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by sisters, Jeanne Greulich and Carol Sue in infancy.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, until a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Joe Steinbauer will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date.
