David R. Klinger, 67, died Jan. 8, 2013, in his home after a lengthy illness.
David, a native of Sandusky, played fullback/left defensive end for the Sandusky High School Blue Streaks and was “All Ohio” his last two years of high school 1962-64. David was preceded in death by his older sister, Connie Russell, in 2008.
He is survived by his five children, Amy Kellar and Jack Klinger, of Toledo, Shannon, of Munich, Germany, Jeremiah, of Indianapolis, and Cassie, of Cassopolis, Mich.; three grandchildren, Lane and Shelby Kellar and Maddie Klinger, of Toledo; his brother, Daniel, of Milan; his sisters, Alyce, of Sandusky, and Rebecca, of California.
David honorably served in the Marine Corps 1964-68. He was stationed at Da Nang Airbase during the Vietnam War where he worked on Phantom jets.
David was a retired engineer from Conrail Railroad, recently spending a good portion of his free time fishing and hunting.
The family held a private service last week.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.
