John L. “Grubby” Grubb, 95, of Flat Rock, passed away, Tuesday Jan. 8, 2013, at the Ohio Veterans Home. His loving wife, Kathleen Mae (Addis) Grubb, 94, passed away, Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center. They were married on May 22, 1941, in Bellevue.

John was born in Fremont on Sept. 30, 1917, the son of George and Ellen (Bordeaux) Grubb. He was a 1935 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. He served during World War II in both the infantry and the Army Air Corp, where he taught code and radio. He retired from local 42 plumbers and pipe fitters union as a master plumber. John was the manager at the East Harbor State Park Marina for 14 years. He was also a licensed pilot and charter boat captain. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, and attending events his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in.

Kathleen was born March 17, 1918, in Castalia, the daughter of William and Julia (Walsh) Addis. She was a 1937 graduate of Bellevue High School. Her love and hobby was her family, which she showed in many ways, caring for children, attending events that her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated in, and especially preparing Sunday dinner for the whole family every Sunday for 40-plus years. She was an 85 year member of Lyme Congregational Church of Christ where through the years she served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent, musician, council president, deacon, choir member and current president of the Ladies Society.

John and Kathleen are survived by their daughters, Kay (Mike) Grant of Flat Rock, and Sharon (Bill) Musser of Bellevue; grandchildren, Jason (Monica) Grant of Flat Rock, Cory (Heidi) Musser of Bellevue, Matthew (Alanna) Grant of Twinsburg, Ohio, Ann (Jimy) Foreman of White’s Landing, Connor (Cheryl) Grant of Flat Rock, and Ashley (Mark) Hancock of Painesville, Ohio; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Cecile Martin, Lyle Ebersole, Beatrice Fenderbosch, and brother, Sidney Addis. John is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Larry Grubb.

Calling hours for John and Kathleen will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Lyme Congregational Church of Christ, 5451 Ohio 113, Bellevue.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Ohio Veterans Home, Lyme Congregational Church of Christ, or the Sandusky/Firelands Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Support Group.
