Frank Edward “Sonny”

Kotora, 92, formerly of Huron, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013. 

Mr. Kotora was born in Canton, Ohio. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1938 where he was a member of the swim team and played the trumpet in the marching band and was a cheerleader for one year. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University in 1948 and a member of the business fraternity. He was a resident of Michigan from 1961-86 where he worked as an accountant for Ford Motor Company until his retirement. He then returned to Ohio where he lived from 1986-2012 before moving to Florida one month ago.

He was very active and a member of the Huron Yacht Club, Senior Golf League at Thunderbird Hills and Senior Tennis at Baywinds Athletic Club. He enjoyed playing bridge, and especially sailing his boat the Callaloo from Harbor North Marina. In recent years, he was fortunate enough to enjoy his passion by sailing to numerous Caribbean islands, with Trinidad being his favorite. Earlier in his life he also held a pilot’s license for private planes.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

He is of the Episcopalian Faith. Mr. Kotora was a joy to be around and loved socializing with friends and family.

Mr. Kotora was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Majorie Smith in 1994, and is survived by his three children, Kevin (Angela) Kotora , of Troy, Mich., Julie (Lee) Bruey, of Keystone Heights, Fla., and Lisa (Holly Sommers) Kotora, of Atlanta; one sister, Geraldine Lehrer, of Sandusky; three grandchildren, Christian (Francesca) Bruey, of Orlando, Fla., Cassandra Bruey, of Charleston, S.C., and Dylan Kotora, of Troy.

A Memorial Brunch will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Sullivan’s Home, 7712 SR 100, Keystone Heights, FL 32656. Another celebration of his life will take place in early summer at the Huron Yacht Club. Mr. Kotora’s final resting place will be in Huron.
