Anthony J. Damanti, 81, residing in Sandusky, passed away late Wednesday evening, Jan. 9, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Tony was born Feb. 12, 1931, in Cleveland, son the late Thomas Damanti and Josephine (DeCaro) Centorbi.
Tony was a 1950 graduate of Sandusky High School and also a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He sailed around the world aboard the John R. Pierce. He was a retired business owner of Damanti Motors which he owned for more than 30 years. Tony also owned and operated many other businesses of his own throughout his lifetime.
He was a member of American Legion Post 83, VFW 2529, and the IAB Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed singing, history, reading, dancing, roller skating, golfing, playing poker, boating, and he absolutely loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Tony is survived by the mother of his children, Patricia Damanti; his three daughters, Tammy Damanti-Ruthsatz, of Medina, Ohio, Terry (Shannon) Harvey, of Norwalk, and Mindy (Michael) Nutter, of Sandusky; his two sons, Thomas (Susan) Damanti, of Springfield, Ohio, and Mark Anthony Damanti, of Florida; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Josephine Torkelson, Marie Crawford and Sue Ryan, all of Arizona; two brothers, Thomas Damanti, of California, and James Damanti, of Arizona; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Cassondra D. Ground, and one great-granddaughter, Hosanna Jael Unzicker.
Friends may call 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, and from 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, until services at 11 a.m. at Faith Memorial Church, 1320 E. Strub Road, Sandusky. Pastor Ken HIser will officiate. Private family burial will take place at a later date at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
