George A. Bixby, 87, of Norwalk, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in Norwalk Memorial Home surrounded by his family.
He was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Norwalk, to Arthur P. and Florence (Meyer) Bixby, and was a lifelong area resident. George attended St. Anthony Catholic Church, Milan, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He was a teamster truck driver for Montgomery Ward and other companies for many years.
George was a member of Firelands Post 2743 VFW, Norwalk, and was a founding member of Vacationland Travelers. He enjoyed camping and yard work.
George is survived by his children, Michael G. Bixby and Beverly Shoemake of Monroeville, Ohio, Shari A. and Richard Parker, of Milan, and Scott A. and Jeri Bixby of Norwalk; grandchildren, Dennis Bixby, Diane Darling, Jeffrey Stenger, Tamara Boyd, James Parker, Richard Parker Jr., Traci Bumpus, and Jaysen Koehn; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and one soon to be born; sisters, Ivon Service of Norwalk, and Joyce Dzoba of Elyria, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janis in 2004; brothers, Marvin and Betty Bixby, and Roy Bixby; brothers-in-law, George Service, and Jack Dzoba; daughter-in-law, Cleo Bixby.
Friends may call 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 11, at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Milan.
