Richard Joseph Davie

Richard “Rich” Joseph Davie, 60, of Sandusky, passed away Saturday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center surrounded by family after a lengthy illness.

Rich was born April 8, 1952, in Sandusky to Alice and Richard V. Davie. He attended St. Mary Central Catholic Schools and was a 1970 graduate of SMCC. Rich was a standout football and All-Ohio basketball player in high school. His records of single game scoring (55 points) and most points scored in a career (2001 points) still stand, both at St. Mary as well as in Erie County. He attended the University of Toledo on a basketball scholarship and was inducted into the St. Mary Athletic Hall of Fame in January, 2004. He was a self-employed painter and owned and operated Davie Painting Inc. for many years. 

He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Browns, the Cavs and The Ohio State University.

He is survived by three children: Andrew “Drew” (Danielle) Davie of Sandusky, Adrienne (Austin) Ayars of Phoenix, Arizona and Adam Richard Davie of Arlington, Virginia; his father Richard V. Davie of Sandusky; four brothers: Denny(Amy), Jeff (Mary Ann), Brian (Sue) all of Sandusky and Mark (Mary) of Huron; five grandchildren: Bryce, Braelyn and Brock Davie of Sandusky and Lane and Layla Ayars of Phoenix, Arizona; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Alice D. (Fitz) Davie in 1995 and brother Mike Davie in 2009.

Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 pm. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contribution may be made to Sandusky Central Catholic Schools, 410 W. Jefferson St., Sandusky.
