Gordon R. Meeker, 88, of Huron, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in Admiral’s Pointe Nursing & Rehab, Huron.
Gordon was born April 17, 1924, in Sandusky and was a lifelong resident of Huron. He graduated from Huron High School in 1943 and attended Dennison University, Western Reserve Dental School and the University of Illinois at Chicago Dental School.
Gordon was self-employed in his dental practice in Sandusky from 1954 until retiring in 1989.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during WW II in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Huron, where he served as trustee for many years. He served at the Huron Public Library as trustee. He was a member of the American Board of Orthodontics.
He owned Melrose Farms in the Huron and Milan areas and was a direct descendent of early Huron farm settlers. Gordon had a love for woodworking and carving.
He is survived by his daughter, Alyson K. (David) Wilson, of Huron; son, David G. Meeker, of Lakewood, Ohio; two grandchildren, Matthew and Natalie Wilson; and sisters-in-law, Janice Abney, of Fremont, Barbara Daniels, of Berea, Ohio, and Norma V. Batch, of Huron.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma R. (Batch) to whom he was married for 43 years; his parents, Lloyd E. and Florence L. (Rosekelly) Meeker; sisters, Leota Tejan, Lois Dundon and Lyna Hicks; and brother, Ralph Meeker.
Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main St., Huron, and from 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, until services at 11 a.m. at Huron United Methodist Church, 338 Williams St. The Rev. Roger Skelley-Watts will officiate. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery, Huron.
