Ruth Harkness, 78, of Norwalk, peacefully passed away on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, in Gaymont Nursing Home in Norwalk.
She was born Nov. 6, 1933, in Menlo, Ga., and was a resident of Norwalk for 61 years.
Ruth was a member of Por ter ’s Memorial CME Church of Sandusky, where she served on the usher board, as a stewardess and choir member.She also faithfully served at Norwalk CME Church. Her community involvement included the Socialites, founding member of the Holiday Gospel Singers, and Eastern Star Progressive Lodge 85.
She enjoyed quilting, c o o k i ng, b a k i ng a n d gardening.
Ru t h i s su r v i ve d by her husband of 61 years, Rayfield Harkness; five children, Dennis (Antionette) Harkness of Columbus, Herbert (Jennifer) Harkness of Lexington, Ohio, Shirley (Stanley) Harkness-Jefferson of Mansfield, Ohio, Tara Harkness of Columbus and Christopher Harkness of Norwalk; a brother, Ray Thompson of Summerville, Ga.; sisters, Sarah Ruth Thompson of Summerville and Nancy (Dee) White of Menlo; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a special great-niece, Edie Warner of Norwalk ; two g o d c h i l d re n , L i sa Caffey and Troy Price; a dear friend, Goldie Crosby; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Ruth was preceded i n d e at h by h e r parents, Sylvester Thompson and Charlsie Price; three brothers, John Henry Thompson, Donald Price and Buster Price Jr.; and three sisters, Pearline McCloud, Nell Sperling, and Lucille Cameron.
Visitation will be• from 11a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, until services at noon at Porter’s Memorial CME Church, 1722 Third St., Sandusky. Pastor Randolph White will officiate, and Pastor Steve Robinson of City of Deliverance in Lorain will be eulogist. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk.
