Rita L. Wiedle, 95, of Clyde, died in her home Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.
Rita was born in Milan, Dec. 15, 1917, to Fabian and Helen (Holzhauer) Schwable. She graduated from Milan High School and Bowling Green University. Prior to her marriage, she had been a teacher at Townsend School.
On May 11, 1940, she married Howard R. Wiedle. From 1940-1960 Rita and Howard farmed 370 acres. In 1960, they built Sleepy Hollow Golf Course, which they opened in 1961. Rita and Howard operated the club together before they sold it in 1988.
"Rete" was an avid gardener, an excellent cook and became interested in scrap booking.
Her husband, Howard, survives along with four children, Jean Block (Roger) of Treasure Island, Fla., Russell A. "Butch" Wiedle (Helen) of Topeka, Kan., Douglas G. Wiedle (Janis) of Clyde, and Patricia Wiedle (Kit Hetrick) of Clyde; seven grandchildren, Ronald Moyer, Rick Moyer, Jeff (Jennifer) Moyer, Justin (Erica) Wiedle, John Wiedle, Angela Marie (Jeff) Allamon, Michelle (Kirk) Stewart, Brian Wiedle; three step grandchildren, Andrea (Terry) Gronenthal, Cortney (David) Rapp, and Edward (Carrie) Kennedy,IV; 12 great-grandchildren; nine step great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Sue Wiedle in 1964; and siblings, Rose Gunn, Mary Oakes, Robert Schwable, and Wilfred Schwable.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at the funeral home with Rev. Ed Schleter officiating. Burial will be in Parkhurst Cemetery, Clyde.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
