Robert E. Knoll Sr., 79, of Sandusky, died Thursday morning, Dec. 27, 2012, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, following a brief illness.
He was born March 21, 1933, in Sandusky and was a 1951 graduate of Sandusky High School. Bob was employed as a mail carrier by the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years, retiring in 1987. He also worked at the Sandusky Register, Stephen’s Printing Company and was a taxi cab driver.
Bob also owned and raced his super modified car at the Sandusky and Fremont Speedways, where he was known as the “Flying Mailman”.
He was a member of the Commodore Denig Post 83, American Legion and enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Carol Bullock; three daughters, Deborah (John) Pankow, of Milan, Beverly (Joe) Baker and Brenda (Mike) Oeder, of Sandusky; one son, Robert E. (Belinda) Knoll Jr., of Sandusky; 12 grandchildren, Nikki Pankow, Shane Pankow, Matt Baker, Jeff Baker, Jen Oeder, Brad Oeder, Ross Oeder, Mandee Frischee, Kary Millis, Nick Knoll, Zac Knoll, and Lili Pinherio; 16 great-grandchildren; his stepmother, Arlene Knoll, of Sandusky; one sister, Betty Lou Roeser, of Sandusky; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Knoll; his mother, Dorothy (Sturzinger) Withem and one brother, Vernard Knoll.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31. Pastor John Paputza will officiate. Entombment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
