Zellie A. “Spoon” Henderickson, 88, residing in Sandusky, died early Sunday morning, Dec. 23, 2012, in the Erie County Care Facility following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Knifely, Ky., to Charles and Sally E. (White) Henderickson.
Zellie retired from the NASA-Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1981, after 30 years of service. He was a member of Northcoast Community Church in Sandusky, Progressive Lodge 85, Prince Hall Free and Accepted Mason for 60 years, and the Masonic Temple in Sandusky. He enjoyed working with his hands doing miscellaneous plumbing and carpentry work for his family and friends.
Zellie is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Henderickson of Sandusky; one son, Tony Henderickson of Sandusky; two grandchildren, Anthony “Toby” Henderickson of Sandusky, and Shaniece Henderickson of Depew, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Cierra Lee, Shani Belle, Najaree Myers, Say’Von Lash-Henderickson, Jordan Alexander-Henderickson, Anthony Newell-Henderickson; special nephews, Charles (Thelma) Duvall, Dan (Joann) Duvall; special cousins, Delmar (Juanita) Sivley, Paul Hardin; sisters-in-law, Helen Henderickson and Net Henderickson; and other relatives.
Including his parents, Zellie was preceded in death by two brothers, Tressie and Asure Henderickson; and two sisters, Anna Jones and Alpha Duvall.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Groff Funeral Home and Crematory 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Friends may also call at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Providence Baptist Church, 224 Dixie Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church, Rev. Scottie Aaron will officiate. Entombment will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
