Larry G. Mullins, 73, of East Palatka, Fla. passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, Fla. following an extended illness.
He was born in Grundy, Va., and resided in East Palatka for the past 32 years, coming from Bellevue.
In 1978 he retired from the Norfolk and Southern Railway as the Lieutenant of Detectives after 20 years of service. His jurisdiction covered all of northern Ohio. He got his start in law enforcement with the Bay View Police Department, where he served from 1968-74. He was a former Mason and Shriner. He was an avid freshwater fisherman and enjoyed going out on the St. Johns River.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Evins and Italy Mullins; one daughter, Cynthia Mullins; his second wife of five years, Carole Mullins; one son, Timothy Mullins; and an uncle, Atly Fields.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Mullins of Palatka, Fla., Scott Mullins (Tammy Lambert) of San Mateo, Fla., Daniel and Joanna Mullins of East Palatka, and Matthew and Chelsea Mullins of East Palatka; four daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Jim Witter of Port Clinton, Chasity and Martin Johnson of Hastings, Fla., Stephanie Mullins of Maine, and Amber and Adam Hufnagel of East Palatka; one sister, Angel Menefee of Palatka; 14 grandchildren, Ronnie, Jeremy, Kayla, Natasha, Nicole, Joanne, Tyler, Hannah, Brenden, Tristan, Ryleigh, Brysen, Carlie and Alexis; and six great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home, with Pastor Jenny McNett officiating. Interment will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens. To honor and celebrate his life, a video tribute will be shown.
