Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Weideman, age 92, a life-long resident of Erie County, passed away Friday evening, Dec. 7, 2012, in Providence Care Center in Sandusky.
Mary was born Oct. 4, 1920, in North Monroeville, Ohio, to Marie Starr (Huntley) and Newman W. Smith.
She was a 1938 graduate of Sandusky High School, and a 1941 graduate of St. Luke’s Nursing School in Cleveland. She worked at Good Samaritan Hospital in Sandusky as a registered nurse and a nursing supervisor from 1957 until her retirement in 1983. She will long be remembered for her special nursing care of patients, friends, and family and her constant loving care of her garden and grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou (John F.) Hanson, of Indianola, Neb.; two grandsons, Thomas R. (Maria) Hanson of Aurora, Colo., and Andrew L. (Elizabeth) Hanson of Rochester, Minn.; two great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Brianna; three sisters-in-law, Audrey Weideman, Mildred Buchholz, Edith White; one brother-in-law, Gerald Hosfeld; nieces, nephews, special caregivers, and many friends.
Including her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Lynn Alonzo Harris in 1968; her second husband, Robert P. Weideman in 2005; her sister and brother-in-law, Catherine M. and Earnest F. Nixon.
Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Church of the Nazarene, 1617 Milan Road, Sandusky. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. at the church, Pastor David P. Flack will officiate the service. At the family’s request, a private family burial will take place at a later date.
