David P. Knoll, 82, of North Fairfield, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, in Twilight Gardens Home.
He was born Jan. 31, 1930, in Burns, Colo., son of the late Alfred and Margaret (Showler) Knoll. David came to Huron County in 1932 where he grew up on the family farm in Bronson Township. He worked at New Departure from 1948-56 when he went back to farming on his own dairy farm in Fairfield Township until his retirement.
David was married to Marilyn (Butler) Knoll in 1951 and they celebrated their 61st anniversary in June of 2012.
His favorite pastime was western square dancing, belonging to the FADS Club, and the Ohio Square Campers. He and Marilyn traveled and danced in much of the United States, including Hawaii.
David is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and their children, Jeffrey (Diana) Knoll, of Pittsburgh, Scott Knoll (and his fiancé, Lisa Kerr), Bruce (Gail) Knoll and Jill Knoll, all of North Fairfield, Heather (John) Warren, of Germany, and Timothy (Melinda) Knoll, of North Fairfield. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dawn Knoll, Kaitlyn (Travis) Galan, Jason, Rebecca, Troy, Nathan, Livia Greener, Adam, Tiffany Murray, Ashley, and Alex Knoll, and Justin Meek; 12 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marjory Knoll; his niece, Celina (Jon) Bolding; his nephew, Richard (Lori) Osborn; and his brother-in-law and best friend, John Treiber.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Treiber, in 2010; and by his brother-in-law, William Gavel.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11. The Rev. James Gaston, pastor of North Fairfield United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in North Fairfield Cemetery.
