Albert Caselton Tarrant, 77, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, in Mercy Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was born March 7, 1935, in Vermilion, where he was a life long resident. Albert graduated from the 1954 class of Vermilion High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Maurer Wikel for 30 years and then as an exterminator for Central Exterminating for 30 years, retiring in 2000.

He was a former member of Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational. Al was a 56-year member and past master of Ely Lodge 424, F. & A.M. in 1973; past high priest of P.B. Morgan Chapter 233; a 54-year member of Royal Arch Mason in 1975; and a 40 year member of the Madeleine Chapter 204, Order of the Eastern Star. He held the office of sentinel for a number of years and was also elected a life member in 2005. Al was a trustee for the Vermilion Area Archival Society and member of Vermilion Church Men United. He enjoyed helping at the Vermilion News Print Shop Museum, making clocks, bee keeping, raising orchids, historical photos, and Vermilion history.

He is survived by his sisters, Nancy Emery and Ginny (Dave) Wilkes, of Vermilion; brothers, William R (Lois) Tarrant and Richard (Georgianne) Tarrant, of Vermilion; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Ella (Roscoe) Tarrant; brother, Philip Tarrant; sisters, Eleanor Slocum and Zella Bolyard; brother-in-law, Howard “Jerry” Emery; and his pet parrot of 28 years.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, until a memorial service at noon at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion, where Ely Lodge 424 will conduct a Masonic service. The Rev. Louis Bertoni will officiate. Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
