David F. Cole, 92, of Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday morning, Nov. 28, 2012, in Ohio Veterans Home.
David was born May 25, 1920, son of the late Floyd and Grace (Martin) Cole. David was a 1938 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. He was the owner and operator of Cole Tool & Die Company which was founded by his father in 1933. David proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the Pacific on the destroyer USS Foote.
David was very active in his community. He was a member of ASTME, serving on four different committees. In addition, he was president of ASTME for two years. For many years, he trained multiple tool and die makers. He was also a board member for several banks in Mansfield, Ohio. David was a member of the United States Power Squadron; he was a commander at the local, district, and national levels. He was also the national rear commander in charge of safety.
David is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret Ellen (Shepherd) Cole; his daughter, Susan M. (Roger) Heng; his son, Alan D. (Marla) Cole; five grandchildren, Christina (Lee) Harshbarger, Sarah (Marty) Telschow, Alexandra Cole, Ian Cole, and Camille Lumbert; two great-grandchildren, Lilith Harshbarger and Clarise Telschow; and a special cousin, Robert Campbell.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, until funeral services at 3 p.m. at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Warren Warner will officiate. After the funeral service, family and friends may gather at the Sandusky Yacht Club for food and drink.
