Helen E.(Volz) Thompson, 91, of Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday evening, Nov. 21, 2012, surrounded by herfamilyinProvidenceCare Center, Sandusky.
She was born Aug. 15, 1921, in Sandusky, daughter of the late Eugene and Collette (Schmieder) Volz. She was a 1940 graduate of St. Mary High School and a 1946 graduate of Warner’s School of Cosmetology of Toledo. Helen owned and operated Helen’s Beauty Salon for more than 50 years.
She loved her family dearly and was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Helen was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, the Legion of Mary and Golden Agers.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra L. (David) Beeker of Gibsonburg, Ohio; five sons, Daniel J. (Kay) Thompson, of Castalia, and David C. (Colleen) Thompson, John F. (Sally) Thompson,JamesW.(Kathy) Thompson and Ronald J. (Linda) Thompson, all of Sandusky; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Arlene Volz; brother-in-law,TomMcGory; and nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. “John” Thompson, on July 1, 1997; grandson, Will Douglas Thompson; parents;threesisters,Marilyn McGory, Bernice Reardon and Arlene Ahlers; and brother, Eugene “Red” Volz.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at HolyAngelsCatholicChurch, 428TiffinAve.,Sandusky.The Rev. Joseph Steinbauer will officiate. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Sandusky.
