Carl E. Riesterer, age 92, of Sandusky and formerly of Castalia, died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 25, 2012, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.
He was born July 7, 1920, in Sandusky, to Alex and Sarah (Watzel) Riesterer. He attended Sandusky city schools and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II in the South Pacific.
Carl was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia, where he was active as an elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher, and superintendent. He worked for the Apex Company and retired from Pick-N-Pay as a meat cutter. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, and Senior Men’s Fellowship. He was also the past mayor of the Village of Castalia, and served on village council. Carl coached Little League baseball for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Alice (Karbler) Riesterer; daughter, Beverly (David) Mix, Castalia; two sons, Timothy (Martha) Riesterer, Castalia, Thomas (Linda) Riesterer, Gallatin, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Cpt. Philip (Kris) Mix, Joseph Mix, Rebecca Riesterer, Lt. Cory Riesterer, Keith Riesterer and Jared Riesterer.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Alex Riesterer; and sister, Anita Maag.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington St., Castalia. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. at the church, the Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
