Mary J. Papenfuss, 65, of Sandusky, passed away late Monday afternoon, Nov. 5, 2012, surrounded by her family in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
She was born May 11, 1947, in Sandusky, daughter of the late Sylvanus Fred and Honora Esther (Henry) Bankert. Mary was a 1965 graduate of St. Mary Central Catholic High School and Ohio State School of Cosmetology. She had retired from Erie County Care Facility where she had worked for many years as a supervisor. Mary also worked at the Knotty Pine for 10 years.
She was a member of the Sandusky Eagles Ladies Auxiliary Aerie 444.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Kay Lynn (Richard) Airton. of Plymouth, Mich.; son, Jeffrey Allen Jordan, of Santa Ana, Calif.; four grandchildren, Michael and Jaylee Jordan and Thomas and Joseph Airton; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, August Papenfuss; parents; sister in infancy, Honora Bankert; two sisters, M. Nancy Kaufman and Susan Bankert; and brother, H. Reed Bankert.
At her request there will be no visitation and cremation will take place. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Erie County Care Facility, 3916 E. Perkins Ave., Huron, OH 44839 or to the donor’s charity of choice.
