Edward L. Thompson, 78, of Sandusky, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, following a lengthy illness.
Edward was born April 30, 1934, in Wayne County, Ky., and was raised and lived in Somerset, Ky., until moving to Lorain County in 1961. Sandusky was home for the last 10 years.
Edward was employed at Ford Motor Company in Avon for 22 years retiring in 1996 as an inspector.
Edward loved to sing gospel and bluegrass music. His hobbies included restoring vintage automobiles and traveling with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Trulla (Turner) Thompson; sons, Ronnie L. (Aixa) Thompson, of Lorain, and David D. (Kelly) Thompson, of Vermilion; daughter, Caroline (Joseph) Raines, of Elyria; stepdaughters, Marquetta (Walt) Salisbury, Becky (Rob) Watson, Brenda Smith (companion Jimmy Myers), Machelle Edwards and Dawn (Kevin) Fenwick, all of Castalia; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sixteen stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Joyce) Thompson, of Wayne County, Vernon (Marilyn) Thompson, of Sullivan, Ohio, and James (Lynn) Thompson, of Oberlin, Ohio; sisters, Lucille Troxtell of Science Hill, Ky., and Lillie (Paul) Bolin, of Somerset.
Edward was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanie (Jones) Thompson on Oct. 19, 2002; his parents, Ephraim and Linda (Jones) Thompson; sisters, Hazel Hall, Iva Lea Thompson and Rosetta Thompson.
Friends may call 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, and from 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, until services at 11 a.m. at North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 323 North Lake St., South Amherst. The Rev. Walt Salisbury his son-in-law, of the Church of God in Sandusky, will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
