Richard Thomas Carter, 65, of Sandusky, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, in Toledo St. Vincent Hospital following complications from an auto accident.

Richard was born March 16, 1947, in Elyria, where he was raised and graduated with Elyria High School Class of 1965. Sandusky was his home for the last 16 years.

Richard worked as an electrician at Sandusky General Motors plant for 29 1/2 years, retiring in 2010. He was working for the KBI Company in Sandusky. He was a starter and groundskeeper for Woussickett Golf Course in Sandusky as well.

As an avid golfer, he enjoyed playing golf wherever he would go. He also loved to bowl and work on landscaping. 

He served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Elyria Masonic Lodge 787. Most of all, he loved caring for his family and dear friends.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Kathryn Elizabeth (Arndt); his son, Robert (Lisa) Carter and their children, Halie and Jordan; his daughter, Cheryl (Pierre) Tristam, and their children, Sadie and Luca, of Florida; his aunt, Mary Neuman, of North Ridgeville, Ohio; his cousin, Carol Greentree, of Amherst, and her children and grandchildren, Amy Burnette and Carol Ann Kiley and Carol Ann’s daughter, Taylor.

Richard was preceded in death by his brother, David Carter, in 1984; and his parents, Bruce and Florence (Harrison) Carter.

Friends may call 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. A Masonic Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at   Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, with additional viewing from 11:15 a.m. until the funeral service at 1 p.m. The Rev. Alana Kelley, pastor of Magyar United Church of Christ, Elyria, will officiate. Full Military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
