Robert “Bob” L. Smith, 82, of Palm Harbor, Fla., went peacefully to spend eternity with his Lord on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012.
He was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Weston, Mich., son of the late Hal and Nova Smith. Bob attended The Ohio State University where he received his B.S. degree in Education and Bowling Green State University where he received his M.S. and Specialist degree in Educational Administration. He used these degrees throughout his life, being a teacher, a principal, and the superintendent of Sandusky Public Schools.
His achievements included: president of Buckeye Association of School Administrators; life member of Ohio and National Education associations; and recipient of Phi Delta Kappa Leadership award; along with being a community leader to further and improve education.
Bob retired to Florida in 1986 with his wife Betty where they enjoyed golf, and traveled to every state and province in the U.S.A., Canada and Mexico.
He was a member of Palm Harbor United Methodist Church. In former congregations he served as a choir member, usher, and greeter.
Bob was a devoted husband and loving father. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty; daughter, Karen, of Houston, son, Larry (Debra), of Palm Harbor; two grandsons, and two great-grandsons.
Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by brother, Glen, and sister, Evelyn; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at St. Mark’s Village, Palm Harbor, and interment will be at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park, Indian Rocks, Fla.
