Leroy P. Lawrence, 91, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Monday morning, Oct. 22, 2012, in Stein Hospice Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Leroy P. Lawrence was born May 6, 1921, at home in Sandusky, son of the late George W. and Anna (Stuckey) Lawrence. Leroy was a 1939 graduate of Sandusky High School, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country from 1942-46, including the Battle of the Bulge in 1945, and was the recipient of a Bronze Star with three citations. Leroy was employed at Apex Plant in Sandusky, and retired from Universal Clay Products in 1982 after many years of dedicated service.
Leroy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and VFW Post 2529. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding roller coasters at Cedar Point, fishing, playing cards, and was a “jack-of-all-trades”.
Leroy is survived by his children, Joanne (Dana) Stahl, Betty (Charles) Davis and Karen (Tim) Gearheart; grandchildren, Cheri Maiani, Joseph (Sarena) Maiani, Charlene (Anthony) Gardner, Ashley (Jacob Lange) Gearheart and Daniel Gearheart; one great grandson, Charles Maiani; and his first cousin, Dean Renwand.
Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Coletta (Grohs) in 1980; his parents; his brother, Elmer LeRoy; and his two sisters, Ruth Williams and May Lentz.
Private family services will take place Thursday morning, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
