Thomas J. Bird, 62, of Marblehead, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, in Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton.
He was born Jan. 3, 1950, the son of Mayor Robert J. and Marian (Pepon) Bird. Tom was a 1968 graduate of Danbury High School and a 1972 graduate of Bowling Green State University, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in business. He taught and coached football at North Ridgeville schools until 1978. From 1978 until his retirement on Dec. 22, 2006, he was a pipefitter/plumber for General Motors in Sandusky.
Tom was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead, and VFW Post 7572 men’s auxiliary, Marblehead. He was in his third term on the Village of Marblehead Board of Public Affairs, where he was serving as President. He was very musically talented and enjoyed playing the keyboard and organ. Tom especially enjoyed following musical groups and going to concerts.
Surviving are his sister, Mayor Jacqueline A. Bird of Marblehead; aunts and uncles, Nora Bird of Marblehead, Joseph (Mary) Pepon of Sandusky, Michael (Beatrice) Pepon of Marblehead; numerous cousins, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Anna and Joseph Pepon, William and Ida Bird; aunts and uncles, John J. Bird, Edward and Jeanette Bird, Willard Bird, Anna and Charles Myers, Alice and Joseph Cander and Elaine and Anthony Kuznik.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead. Additional visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Dan Ring officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead Volunteer Fire Department, or the Village of Marblehead Police Association.
