Mildred M. 'Mil' Painter

Mildred M. “Mil” Painter, 88, of Sandusky, passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 20, 2012, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

She was born March 7, 1924, in Cleveland, the daughter of John and Marian (Kelley) Hamburger. She was a 1941 graduate of St. Mary Central Catholic High School. She worked at New Departure Hyatt (Division of General Motors) for nearly 30 years before retiring, prior to that, she had worked at the Ford Motor Company. 

She enjoyed wintering with her late husband, Howard “Bud”, in Fort Myers, Fla. for nearly 20 years. In years past, she enjoyed golfing and bowling and had been active in different local area leagues. She also looked forward to getting together with her high school classmates that formed a card club that had been together for over 40 years. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where she had been involved with the bereavement committee and had been a Eucharistic Minister, and a former member of the Sandusky Orioles Club. She was proud to be a ten-gallon blood donor. 

She is survived by her children, Kathie (Mike) Waldron of Ft. Myers, Fla., Karen Painter of Sandusky, Sister Laureen Painter O.S.F. of South Bend, Ind., Dan (Dawn) Painter, Dave (Teresa) Painter and Mike (Kim) Painter, all of Sandusky; 13 grandchildren, Tracie Trevino, Julie (Scott) Caswell, Nikki Glasgow, Brian (Jenn) Waldron, Nathan (Sarah) Painter, Christy (Dr. Chad) Smalley, Natalie, Seth, Shawn (Summer) Painter, Erin (Sean) Hillis, Michael, Alex and Adam Painter; 16 great-grandchildren, Ty, Nevin, Thomas, Caryn, Madison, Tiana, Sara, Eliza, Emily, Noah, Ethan, Jack, Sophia, Jackson, Joshua and Jacob; great-great-grandchild, Nevin; sister, Dorothy Goeltz of Sandusky; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard A. “Bud” Painter (Sept. 9, 2006); two sisters, Rosemary Pringle and Agnes Manner; four brothers, Larry, Richard, and twin brothers, Herbert and Howard Hamburger.

Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where a Liturgical service will be 7:30 p.m. Prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Joe Steinbauer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
