Richard L. Haughn, age 87, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 20, 2012, in the Erie County Care Facility following a brief illness.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1924, in Kansas, Ohio, to Arthur and Elsie (Mull) Haughn.
Richard was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran serving during World War II. He retired from Eckrich Meats in Fremont as the maintenance supervisor in 1988 after 23 years of service. Following retirement Richard worked at Millott Movers in Sandusky to keep himself occupied.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Perseverance Lodge No. 329, F. & A.M., Richard also enjoyed woodworking and carpentry and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Niehm) whom he married on Dec. 25, 1947; one daughter, Kathleen (Dan) Bickley of Glena, Ohio; four sons, Rick (Patsy) Haughn of Chesapeake, Va., Timmy (Lisa) Haughn of Sandusky, Rusty (Gaby) Haughn of Brandan, Fla., and Ted Haughn of Marblehead; 15 grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Including his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Jeffrey Haughn; one brother, Ivan Haughn; and three sisters, Margaret Dieter, Jane Chaney and Kathleen Hammer.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Groff Funeral and Crematory 1607 E. Perkins Ave. Sandusky. The Perseverance Lodge will conduct Masonic Services at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the funeral home. The Pastor John Mawhirter of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park.
